Does Claude train on your data? What UK businesses need to know

No - Anthropic does not use the conversations you have with Claude to train its models by default on business and paid plans. Your prompts, documents and Claude's replies are not fed back into the model. This is the single most-asked question from UK teams considering Claude, and it deserves a straight answer before anything else.

What that means in practice

If your team uses Claude through a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, or through the business tiers of claude.ai, the content of your chats stays out of Anthropic's training pipeline. Consumer plans have historically had an optional feedback setting, which is one more reason a business should put staff on a proper team plan rather than personal accounts.

So can staff paste anything into Claude?

Not quite. 'Claude does not train on your data' answers the model-training question, but your organisation still needs its own rules. Anything you paste into any cloud tool is subject to your contracts, client confidentiality terms and UK GDPR. The safe habit is a simple traffic-light rule:

• Green - public information, general drafting, anonymised examples: fine to use
• Amber - internal documents: use with a business plan, and check your organisation's policy
• Red - personal data, client-confidential material, credentials: keep out unless your organisation has explicitly approved it
